Catnip affects up to 75% of cats (although will not be effective for kittens under the age of 6 months) and sensitivity is thought to be genetically inherited. Catnip leaves contain a chemical compound called Nepetalactone, which acts as a stimulant when sniffed by a cat. If a cat is sensitive, it can cause a euphoric reaction displayed by actions like rolling around, drooling and general hyperactivity. Eating Catnip can cause a sedative affect.
Each reaction to catnip lasts for about 10 minutes at a time. This catnip is ideal for refillable cat toys or as a treat by itself.
